History of the department
The historical development of Mongolian Rehabilitation Medicine has begun in the Central Clinical Hospital and the Second General Hospital in 1940. The merits of senior doctors B.Janchiv, D.Tseye-Oidov, G.Dendev and Kh.Doljinsuren is inextricably linked to the history of this field. The department of Rehabilitation Medicine was first established according to the decree of  B/18 on September 21, 2006, by the President of Health Science University of Mongolia. Two branches of Traumatology and Rehabilitation Medicine merged according to the decree of B /01 on January 06, 2010, and Batsukh O, Honored Medical Doctor and Clinical Professor, was the head of the department. The department of Rehabilitation Medicine has been established independently again in 2018 and is headed by A. Baljinnyam, Ph.D., Associate Professor.

Mission
The missions of the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine are to train skilled physicians to provide professional clinical rehabilitation services, training and research to the international level.
Training
Undergraduate training: In-School of Medicine – 3rd, 4th, 5th grade (2 credits), In-School of Traditional Medicine – 4th grade (2 credits), School of Traditional Medicine, Acupuncture and moxibustion class – 5th (2 credits), School of Public Health, Public health, and social worker – 3rd grade (2 credits), Elective class for students of Medicine (2 credits)
Postgraduate training: Residency training in Rehabilitation and Physical Medicine 2 years, Fellowship training in Rehabilitation medicine  – 6 months
Fellowship Programs: Pediatric rehabilitation, Traumatology and sports rehabilitation, Neurological rehabilitation, Internal medicine rehabilitation, In the academic years between 2010 and 2020, a total of 131 doctors have completed residency training in Rehabilitation Medicine and 15 doctors are being trained now. 6 doctors were trained in as a Pediatric Rehabilitation Doctor and 2 doctors as a Neurological rehabilitation doctor. As of 2020, 8 doctors have completed their master’s degree in Medicine, 3 are studying for master’s and 4 doctoral degrees study.
Project
A total of 8 projects had successfully implemented since 2008, and the following two projects have been implemented since 2019. “To settle down complex management of spasticity with Botulin toxin A injection in Mongolia” funded by Science and Technology Foundation and Ministry of Health, 2019-2021. “Ensuring Inclusiveness and Service Delivery for Persons with Disabilities” (Strengthening of Service Delivery for People with Disabilities) funded by the Asian Development Bank and commissioned by the Ministry of Social Welfare and Labor, 2019-2020.
Professional activities
In 2015, the Rehabilitation ward was established under the General University Hospital and started providing professional care. The ward has extended to the “Rehabilitation and Physical Medicine Center” under the Mongolian-Japanese teaching hospital of Mongolian National University of Medical Science with a staff of 8 people since 2019.
Foreign affairs and cooperation
The Department of Rehabilitation Medicine cooperates with more than 20 professional organizations and universities in 10 countries. Rehabilitation Hospital of Yonsei University, South Korea, National Rehabilitation Center of South Korea, Siloam Center for the Blind, South Korea, Gunma University Hospital, Japan, Miyazaki University Hospital, Japan, Spinal cord injury rehabilitation center at Mayo Clinic, USA, International Spine Injury Association, ISCoS, University of Zurich, Switzerland, KOICA International Organization, JICA  International organization etc.
