History of the department
Historically the Department of Nephrology was re-established in 1992 as successor of the department of the Internal Medicine which was established in 1945. The department was functioning with five faculty members and the head of the department was professors Kh.Gelegjamts and  T.Ariunaa.  The department conducts all educational programs at under- and postgraduate training, graduate levels and clinical research and provides the professional nephrology serves in health care.

Currently the Nephrology Department under the leadership Professor T.Ariunaa PhD, are working with head of department J.Enkhtuya MSc and faculty members Sh.Gansuvd PhD, E.Enkhtamir MSc, T.Baljinnyam MSc and B.Batpurev MSc (nowadays he is in Japan for his research study).

Cover all aspects of our clinical discipline including kidney injury, glomerulonephritis, vasculitis, electrolyte and acid-base disorders, hypertension, genetic kidney diseases, renal complications of pregnancy, chronic kidney disease (CKD), and renal osteodystrophy in the Mongolia Japan hospital and Central Hospital of MNUMS.  

Current areas of research is focus on studies of the epidemiology of CKD and its risk factors. The lecturer is a member of the board of directors of the Asian Council of International Society of Nephrologists, a member of the board of the Asia-Pacific Society of Nephrologists, the International Society of Nephrologists and Mongolian Nephrology Association.
