The department consists of four full-time faculty members and delivers undergraduate training for General Medicine students, as well as graduate programs at the master’s and doctoral levels. In addition, the department provides postgraduate basic and subspecialty training in trauma and orthopedic disciplines. For clinical practice and professional activities, the department works in close collaboration with the MNUMS-affiliated Mongolia–Japan Hospital and the National Trauma and Orthopedic Research Center. Within the framework of international cooperation, the department actively collaborates with Hallym University (Republic of Korea) and Shiga University (Japan), implementing short-term training programs and joint project-based initiatives.

History
Traumatology and Orthopedics in Mongolia laid its scientific foundation with the establishment of European-style medical services in 1925. In 1942, the National University of Mongolia was founded, and the Faculty of Human Medicine was opened, marking the beginning of training national physicians. This played a significant role in the development of all specialized medical fields in the country. The establishment of trauma and orthopedic services, the training of specialists, and the overall development of trauma and orthopedic medical care are closely associated with the name of Honored Physician of Mongolia and State Laureate N. Dash. N. Dash graduated from the Faculty of Medicine of the National University of Mongolia in 1953 and worked as a surgeon at the Ministry of Defense and the Khovd Provincial General Hospital. From 1958 to 1960, he served as a surgeon and department head at the First General Hospital of Ulaanbaatar. Between 1960 and 1975, he worked as a surgeon at the Trauma Department of the State Central Clinical Hospital. From 1975 to 1989, he served as Chief Physician and Director of the Trauma and Orthopedic Hospital, and from 1989 to 1997, he worked as a consulting physician and lecturer at the Trauma and Orthopedic Hospital, as well as a senior specialist at the Ministry of Health. Across different periods, leading trauma specialists served as faculty members at the Department of Trauma, Orthopedics, and Rehabilitation, dedicating their knowledge, skills, and experience to training future generations and leaving a lasting legacy. Distinguished contributors include Honored Physician of Mongolia and founder of trauma and orthopedic services, State Laureate N. Dash; G. Demid; Honored Physicians J. Olzvoi, B. Budee, and S. Sambuu; State Laureate O. Davaasambuu; and senior physicians S. Khünbish, Ts. Demberel, Ch. Batnasan, and N. Khuyag. These physicians worked as full-time and part-time lecturers for undergraduate and postgraduate training at the Medical Institute, Medical University, and later the Mongolian National University of Medical Sciences. From 1985, State Laureate G. Demid officially began teaching, while D. Mishigdorj served as a lecturer from 1978 to 1994 and was recognized as a leading faculty member actively involved in academic, cultural, and sports activities organized by the university. Beginning in 1982, N. Bayaraa, a lecturer from the Military Hospital, taught at the Department of Traumatology and Orthopedics for five years. In 1992, the Department of Traumatology and Orthopedics was officially established, with Clinical Professor G. Demid appointed as Head of the Department. Faculty members during this period included A. Erdenebileg and J. Oyuntugs, followed by D. Dorjgotov from 1993, B. Gombo from 1995, and State Laureate G. Davga as Head of the Department from 1996 to 1997. From 1998 to 2011, P. Erdenesuren served as a faculty member. By Order No. B-01 dated January 6, 2010, the fields of Traumatology and Orthopedics and Rehabilitation Medicine were merged, and the department was reorganized and expanded as the Department of Trauma, Orthopedics, and Rehabilitation. The department was led by Honored Physician of Mongolia and Clinical Professor O. Batsukh, with a faculty of six members. From September 2014 to July 2018, A. Erdenebileg served as Head of the Department of Trauma, Orthopedics, and Rehabilitation. During this period, O. Batsukh and A. Baljinniam worked as senior lecturers, Sh. Batchimeg, L. Naranbat, and Ts. Narantsetseg as lecturers, and Kh. Battulga as a trainee lecturer. Since September 1, 2018, the department has operated as the Department of Traumatology and Orthopedics. A. Erdenebileg served as Head of the Department, and since 2023 to the present, the department has been led by L. Naranbat, MD, PhD, Associate Professor. The current faculty includes Senior Lecturer A. Erdenebileg, MD, MSc, Clinical Professor and Honored Physician of Mongolia, and lecturers B. Zolbayar, MD, MSc, and E. Saranchimeg, MD, PhD. The department currently operates with a total of four faculty members.

Our staffs
Currently, our department has 4 staff (teachers).
